Supervised Training

The Pilates Method was invented and developed in the 20th century by Joseph Pilates.

The Pilates Method of exercising is an all over body conditioning program focusing on creating a strong ‘core’ by strengthening the abdominal muscles and aligning the shoulder girdle and back. This enhances posture and ‘body awareness’.

Practitioners of the Pilates Method experience an improvement in co-ordination, core strength, flexibility and endurance.

The Pilates Method is unique - every movement sequence requires specific breathing techniques, enhancing and engaging abdominal strength. Pilates tones, stretches and massages the muscles from top to toe. This results in long, lean muscles with greater strength through their entire range of movement.

At Essence, clients are trained by physiotherapists who focus on each individual and their specific needs. Clients are educated on how to perform the Pilates Method, and shown how the benefits of pilates can then be carried into their daily lives.

In order to re-educate wrong movement patterns, it is important that clients are observed closely and that they understand how to execute the Pilates Method correctly. We ensure that careful individual supervision is maintained for each client.
